Our History

Following many efforts and battles trying to stay clean, Tom finally succeeded after graduating from Good Friends, Inc. (A halfway house for recovering adult males) in Morrisville, Pa. Incorporating the 12 steps in his life through Narcotics Anonymous, Tom created a way to help other men in recovery. Tom bought his first house, which he lived in until it was fixed up, furnished, and ready for clients to move in. He did this three more times and developed a process for this to work by figuring out how to manage and run the houses efficiently until he got on his own two feet.

Tom helped many of the clients by employing them in his painting business, giving them jobs, such as landscaping, plumbing, interior work, running errands, and odd jobs etc. to sustain the houses. Tom was a very generous man and was an inspiration to many due to his achievements and success in life.

Today there are ten houses (including both recovery and sober houses) owned and
operated by New Path Recovery. Over a hundred clients and a very high success rate of helping hundreds of men over the years start a new life are testaments to Tom’s dedication and the passion of those who continue to make New Path what it is today. New Path is established with jails, institutions, hospitals, and assistance agencies all over the Tri-state area.

Upon Tom’s death in 2007, after a short battle with lung cancer, his legacy lives on through Mrs. Kimberly Barnes – his “one and only” daughter – who now owns New Path, and his best friend – General Manager and part owner –  Gary Bradshaw. Gary continues to operate the business, having overseen the houses and the clients since 2003. Also, Tom’s identical twin, Tim is an influence and presence in the ongoing efforts and mission of the organization.
