What To Expect
Upon entering the house the client is subject to a 30 day probationary period, along with a black out period in which they may only leave the house alone to find work or go to work. This encourages them to depend on other house members for rides to meetings and to interact with the other men in the house.
Mandatory group house sessions with a licensed outside counselor is required. We do encourage family visitations and outings during free time from work to keep our clients in touch with them and other outside hobbies or activities. We believe in our clients’ supporting one another and being led by example of good house members.
In addition to learning the 12 step process, it is required for clients to have a support group (NA,CA,AA), a sponsor for added support, and to meet other addicts who will support them. We believe they can learn from these groups about hope, faith, and building new friendships to guide them on their journey to a new way of living. The suggestions and guidance these groups can offer, especially teaching coping skills, are very important in these early stages of recovery.
Each person is required to stay drug and alcohol free in order to remain at the residence. Smoking is not permitted in any of our houses. We do understand that people smoke and we assign designated areas for them to do so. We provide a well-maintained, furnished, clean-living environment. The men are responsible to complete their chores around the house each day. This means making dinner (provided Monday through Thursday) which is included in the weekly rent. We strive to achieve an atmosphere of family and unity by having the men do everything from the food shopping and cooking, to eating meals together as a family unit.
